Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program
Streams For Entrepreneurs:
Farm Stream: Farm Stream is a program designed for anyone interested in starting a farming business in Alberta.
Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: International graduates of a certified post-secondary institution in Alberta who are interested in starting a business in Alberta can apply for the Graduate Entrepreneur Stream.
Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: For foreign nationals who have graduated from a university outside of Canada and want to start a business in Alberta, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program provides Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream.
The Rural Entrepreneur Stream: The Rural Entrepreneur Stream is designed for entrepreneurs who seek to buy or develop a business in a rural Alberta community.

Alberta Opportunity Stream
Under the Alberta Opportunity Stream, foreign nationals working in Alberta and international graduates who finished their studies at a recognized Alberta post-secondary school are eligible to apply for a provincial nomination.
Candidates who want to be considered for the Alberta Opportunity Stream must apply online through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program website. Candidates will also be required to provide specific documentation based on their individual circumstances. They are also expected to pay the online application fee.
Minimum Requirements:
- A valid work permit is required.
- The applicant must be employed in a recognized Alberta occupation that matches their experience.
- Depending on the employment, a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 4 or 5 is required.
- A high school degree is required.
- A minimum of 24 months of work experience in Canada in the previous 30 months or a minimum of 12 months of work experience in Alberta in the previous 18 months is required.
Alberta Express Entry Stream
Under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, people who already have a profile in the federal Express Entry system can be nominated by the province of Alberta through the Express Entry stream. Individuals who have a connection to Alberta and the talents required to contribute to the province’s economic improvement may be asked to apply by the province.
An additional 600 (Comprehensive Ranking System) CRS points are provided to Express Entry candidates who secure a provincial nomination from Alberta. This basically ensures that they will be invited to apply for permanent residence in the next Express Entry round.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream is only open to those who have been invited. Candidates with Express Entry profiles may get a Notification of Interest (NOI) under the federal system from the Alberta government. Invited candidates then have a specific and limited amount of time to inform the province that they want to be considered for this stream’s selection.

Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway
If chosen, candidates will be contacted by the AAIP and asked to submit all relevant documentation through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program online portal to be considered for provincial nomination.
If the individuals who fulfill the eligibility criteria are asked to submit an online form. And that will be assessed under this stream through the AAIP portal.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program invites the candidate to seek a provincial nomination when the AAIP confirms that the candidate meets the minimum eligibility conditions.
Prospective candidates who are presently employed or have a job offer with an Alberta technology industry employer in an approved tech occupation and meet the qualifications for the Alberta Express Entry stream can begin the application process under the expedited pathway. They must do so by filling out an online form on the AAIP website.
Candidates will receive an invitation from the AAIP to apply for provincial nomination by submitting all needed documentation through the AAIP online portal if they match the stream criteria.
Minimum Requirements:
- A profile in the Express Entry pool is required.
- Must have shown an interest in permanently settling down in Alberta.
- A minimum score of 300 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
- Must be employed in an approved technology-related job in Alberta or have received a tech job offer.
Rural Renewal Stream
Candidates will receive an invitation from the AAIP to apply for provincial nomination by submitting all needed documentation through the AAIP online portal if they match the stream criteria.
Candidates must first gain the endorsement of a participating community in Alberta to be considered for this stream. Employers make job offers to foreign nationals, and the community is responsible for confirming that the individual satisfies the criteria required by this stream. The foreign national is subsequently given a letter of support, and afterwards, they must submit their application to the AAIP.
Minimum Requirements:
- The prospective candidate must have a valid full-time job offer or employment contract from an Alberta company.
- In the 18 months before applying, the candidate must have worked full-time in an approved occupation for at least 12 months. This employment experience might be a mix of Alberta, Canadian, and international experience.
- Minimum language requirements must be met.
- A high school diploma that meets the Canadian educational level is required.
- They must show that they have enough money to maintain themselves and other family members who will be relocating to the specified community.
Farm Stream
Candidates who immigrate to Alberta to buy or establish a farming business should apply for the Self-Employed Farmer Stream.
Those who are interested should submit a business proposal to the Alberta government and wait for a response. The AAIP makes its decision after consulting with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry to ensure that the business plan is viable and that the project fits the needs of the agricultural industry in Alberta. If you receive a favourable response, you must acquire the necessary documentation and fill out the necessary forms for the Alberta government as well as Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Minimum Requirements:
- Abilities related to farm management.
- Sufficient funds (minimum investment of CAD 500,000).
- Investment plans that are stated in the business plan.
Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
International graduates of recognized Alberta post-secondary institutions who want to start or run a business can apply through Alberta’s International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream.
Candidates must first fill out an Expression of Interest (EOI) form on the AAIP website. Within 30 days, you will receive an EOI score, and the top-scoring individuals will be requested to submit a Business Application.
The Business Application must be submitted within 90 days of getting a request for it. In addition, all required documentation must be submitted.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of two years of full-time education
- A valid Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) at the time of application.
- A minimum level of 7 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB)
- Must start a new business or operate an existing one with a minimum of 34% ownership.
Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
This visa is for international graduates with a foreign education who want to start a business in Alberta and become permanent residents of Canada.
You must work with a designated agency, and if you meet the conditions, this agency will write you a letter of recommendation. Then, using the AAIP Portal, you must submit your letter of reference together with your Expression of Interest (EOI).
In addition, the agency will offer you a written report on their evaluation of your suggested business strategy, which must be submitted with your application.

Minimum Requirements:
- You need to have been managing and/or owning a business, full time, for more than six months.
- A business plan with a sound financial plan is required.
- A foreign post-secondary education is required, as well as an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). The degree must have been earned within the previous ten years.
- A 10-minute presentation with only slides that explains the gist of the business and includes all of the information that an investor would want to see.
- A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of at least 5.

Rural Entrepreneur Stream
Candidates who want to start a business in a rural community in Alberta should apply to the Rural Entrepreneur Stream.
This stream is community-dependent, so entrepreneurs who want to start a business in rural Alberta must first contact a community and schedule a visit. Following the visit, the entrepreneur must submit a business proposal that includes information about the business as well as community benefits. The entrepreneur is then given a supporting letter. After gaining community support, the foreign national submits an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the AAIP.
Minimum Requirements:
- Within the last ten years, not less than three years as an active business owner or more than four years as a member of senior management.
- Minimum of a Canadian-standard high school diploma with an Education Credential Assessment (ECA).
- Having acquired a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 4 for each English language competence and each French language skill, a minimum NCLC level of 4.
- A minimum net worth of $300,000 is required.
- Minimum equity investment of $200,000 by the candidate and/or their spouse or common-law partner
- A letter citing the support of the community in rural Alberta is required.
